Bracket to Benefit MSS!

basketballWe’d like to share a fun, simple, and free way for you to support Mesquite Social Services and get your friends involved in our mission to help our neighbors experiencing a financial crisis.

This month, the top NCAA basketball teams will face off in the biggest basketball tournament of the year. Odds are you’ve seen the brackets that people like to fill out during the tournament. Now you and your friends can fill out a bracket online to support Mesquite Social Services! The folks at The Charity Bracket will donate $50,000 to Mesquite Social Services if you have the best score at the end of the tournament. Mesquite Social Services can also win an additional $50,000 prize even if you don’t have the highest score. It costs NOTHING for you to play and win on behalf of Mesquite Social Services.

So sign up now. Click here – It’s 100% free to participate.

It’s simple and anyone can play. Pick the teams you think will win (or if you’re like most people, just take wild guesses and hope you get lucky!) You can also create private groups to compete with your friends and co-workers. Invite your friends, have some fun and support Mesquite Social Services!

Make the Holiday Season a Little Bit More

“‘It came with out ribbons! It came without tags!’
‘It came without packages, boxes or bags!’
And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
‘Maybe Christmas,’ he thought, ‘doesn’t come from a store.’
‘Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!'” ~ Dr. Seuss

September is Hunger Action Month

MSS Truck

Join Mesquite Social Services and other food pantries across the nation to raise awareness about America’s food insecurity crisis during September’s Hunger Action Month.

Did you know?

  • Many families in the MSS Service Area* are living below the poverty level[1]:
    • Mesquite 12.3%
    • Balch Springs 24.8%
    • Seagoville 10.3%
  • Families headed by an adult without a diploma or equivalent, are six and a half times more likely to have food insecure children than families headed by a college graduate?[2]
  • Texas is one out of eight states that has higher household food insecurity rates than the national average.[3]

What can YOU do?

Support your local food pantry: Mesquite Social Services (MSS) is the cornerstone organization of Mesquite that has been serving the community for over 50 years. MSS not only serves our neighbors in need with food, but we also provide assistance with rent and utilities as well as free, online GED prep courses.

  • Volunteer: Your time is precious to you and to MSS clients! Join Michael Houck Monday mornings at 9am for volunteer orientation.
  • Donate: We appreciate your generous donations via mail or through our website. (Don’t forget – your donation goes even further if you give on North Texas Giving Day on September 17th!)
  • Spread the Word: Talk about Hunger Action Month with your family and friends. Be sure to follow MSS on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Let’s put an end to any family going to bed hungry!
